Cameo Bar Turns 50

The beautiful Cameo Cinema’s bar was opened by Sean Connery 50 years ago today; 19 December 1963. This made the Cameo Scotland’s first licensed cinema and its uniqueness was proudly boasted in the newspaper advertisement below.

The Cameo’s my favourite cinema (and Quentin Tarantino’s) and last month my boyfriend proposed in Screen 3. He edited together clips from Sean films to give the impression Sean was giving him permission to marry me. It was really quite lovely and I’ll put the video up on the blog soon.

Until then, here’s a pic of us looking chuffed with the framed ad inviting people to the bar opening.

The lovely Cameo staff had their own celebrations today with Dechlan chalking up Sean and the team munching on a birthday cake.

The Old Lady of Leven Street is still looking swell and celebrates her 100th birthday in 2014.
